Kadija “K-Drizzy” Camara
“I write for the underdogs, for angry daughters, for young girls, big dreamers, yearners, and truth seekers everywhere. It’s our world.”
Kadija Camara, who goes by the stage name K-Drizzy, is a first-generation born West African-American Muslim whose parents immigrated from Guinea. She was born and raised in the boogie-down Bronx.
Kadija is a spoken word poet, creative, storyteller, community leader, fellow fashionista, as well as daughter, sister, friend, and foe, to whomever, wherever. Her love of poetry began in a high school poetry class where she found solace in expression of self.
She is shaped by her culture, faith, and creativity. With a strong preexisting history of oral traditions in West Africa, Kadija honors her heritage by following suit after West African story tellers known as "Jeli" or "Griots." Their prominence in West African society and culture as preservers of history, poets, and community leaders strongly aligns with Kadija’s values as a story teller.
In oder to preserve her West African heritage; Kadija aspires to inspire, speak her innermost truth, and leave an everlasting impact on people’s hearts. Her stage persona K-Drizzy is representative of her need for self-autonomy, authenticity, and growth.
