Join us on November 1 for The Art of Remembrance: Días de los Muertos Altar Activations. Rooted in the traditions of Día de los Muertos, our community altar is a living space for remembrance, reflection, connection, and celebration. Spend the afternoon with us as we gather around the ofrenda, share in creative practices, and honor the people and memories we carry with us.
Bring a photograph, cherished memento, flowers, poem, drawing, or a piece of art to contribute as an offering for a loved one. You can also simply come as you are — there will be many ways to engage with the altar and one another throughout the afternoon.

with Donny, Spiritual Curator, Coach, and Nomad
Continue your remembrance practice with guided meditations throughout the afternoon.
2-6pm | Shrine Making & Marigold Folding
with MJ Martinez, Hi-ARTSMarketing Associate & Altar Curator
Create your own shrine and make marigolds to add to the ofrenda or take with you.
3pm | A celebration of Movement and Memory, A Movement Workshop
with Hi-ARTS Alumni Tanya Birl-Torres & The Zora Project

This movement workshop invites audiences into embodied practices of ancestral connection through folktales, ritual movement, and somatic awareness. Grounded in the practices and methodologies of Zora Neale Hurston's own research into ritual across the African diaspora, we'll move together as a way of honoring those who came before us, activating memory in the body alongside the altar's evolving offerings.
No professional dance experience necessary, just a curiosity and a willingness to be present, in the body and in relationship with ourselves and each other.
3-5pm | Tarot as a Reflection of Our Stories
with Eingel Manuel
25-minute readings | First come first-read. Explore the language of Tarot, intuiting meaning from the symbols that arise, and telling the story reflected in the cards’ images. This offering is tailored to how we relate to death, grief, and our ancestors.
4:15pm | What We Carry: Los Muertos Vivan Adentro de Nosotros
Performance by Raquel Almazan of La Lucha Arts
As the world grapples with cycles of Death, how do we integrate memory, the weight of what we carry, and the resiliency to continue into space as a community? Through Butoh Dance, poetic text, and elements of nature, Almazan moves the collective through a ritual process of remembrance, activating connection with personal Muertos into a physical path that leads to a photograph and/or object ofrenda offering.

In between activities, audiences are invited to mingle, meditate, pray, journal, tend to the altar, and participate in shrine making and marigold folding.
The Movement workshop has limited capacity. Drop-ins are welcome, but we recommend registering in advance to guarantee your spot.
Directions | This event takes place at L10 Arts and Cultural Center, on the 4th floor. accessible via elevator. Please allow extra time to arrive, check in, and get settled before the [WIP] begins.
