OPEN CALL: APPLY TODAY!
Applications are now open for Hi-ARTS’ 2026-27 CRITICAL BREAKS and SKY LAB Artist Residencies.
This year, Hi-ARTS is seeking bold solo and duo artists ready to deepen their creative practice, take creative risks, and move their work to its next stage of development.
Hi-ARTS believes artists need more than a production deadline – they need resources, time, space, and community. Rooted in process, experimentation, and artistic growth, Hi-ARTS residency programs provide financial support, dedicated time and space, and opportunities for public engagement.
Through two developmental residencies—CRITICAL BREAKS and SKY LAB—artists are supported in advancing new work, experimenting with ideas, and sharing their process with audiences.
Past resident artists include Andrea Ambam, Jay St. Flono, Leah Tubbs, Liza Jessie Perterson, Yang Sun & Poets, Cheri L. Stokes, The Illustrious Blacks, Brian Quijada & Nygel D. Robinson, Curtis Turney, Charlene Jean, Najee Omar, Friday Lynton, and many more.
All residencies take place at Hi-ARTS' home in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn's cultural district and culminate in a WORK IN PROCESS [WIP].
Program Eligibility
Hi-ARTS residencies are intended for early and mid-career theater and performing artists. Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary artists are also encouraged to apply.
Artists must be 18 years old or older and eligible to work in the United States. For additional questions about eligibility, please contact us at programs@hi-artsnyc.org.
