LINDALA

LINDALA (she/her) is an international, multidisciplinary SAG-AFTRA performer, recording artist, writer, teacher, curator, host, and model from the Boogie Down Bronx, New York. Born out of the Iconic House of La’Beija, her sound has been articled in both AFROPUNK, The Fader, and has been featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times, W Magazine, and more. She has curated performances with The Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, La Mama Experimental Theatre Club, New York Live Arts, and VICE. Last year, she graciously performed under the direction of Bill T. Jones and Lee Mingwei at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and made her return to the stage in the Obie Award-winning The Fire This Time Theater Festival. This year, she made her film television debut in the role of Swan in the hit series finale of POSE on FX. She is currently working on her first studio project set to include original music and poetry which can be found on all streaming platforms and archived at the Brooklyn Museum in the Nobody Promised You Tomorrow: Art 50 Years After Stonewall exhibition.

LINDALA’s work infuses elements of Hip Hop, R&B, House, and vogue/ballroom culture into original music and spoken word performances. She uses autobiographical narratives, experimental theater, storytelling, and dance movement to increase awareness around transgender issues. Through community engagement in education, entertainment and nightlife she aims to provide exposure and opportunity to other Black Trans performers and artists of color.

During her time at Hi-ARTS, as a SKY LAB Artist in Residence, LINDALA will lead new members of the House/Ballroom community into weeks of discovery in Ballroom movement, culture, history, and legacy. With a special focus on welcoming and centering the voices of Black Trans artists and femmes, she will help begin to shape a production that speaks to the issues in the lives of those who participate. She will lead a group that will strengthen and deepen in bond, exploring the spiritual and healing components of Vogue/Ballroom culture with participants, and reimagining the contexts in which this culture can thrive. Set to finish with a live recorded works-in-progress performance in the black box theater with a live audience, LINDALA hopes to begin the work of a production that can continue to help sustain artists from the House/Ballroom community.
