What does it mean for Black males to exist in the media, when observed, when consumed, when punished?
IN THE PENAL COLONY investigates the performance of power, patriarchy, and punishment. Adapted from Franz Kafka's short story of the same name, this work-in-progress sharing features three black men who convene in an unnamed penal colony.
Using dance, dialogue, music, and sound, it weaves together the history of it’s corporeality. IN THE PENAL COLONY is a reclamation for the black artists involved in its creation.
IN THE PENAL COLONY is the latest sharing supported by our SCRATCH LAB Residency Series.
